BRUSSELS, Belgium — OSCE Chairman-in-Office Belgian Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht on Tuesday (24 January) praised the establishment of a special prosecution department in Macedonia which will deal with organised crime and corruption. The new department is expected to be inaugurated at the Public Prosecution Office in Skopje on Wednesday.

Also Tuesday, Macedonia’s Parliament approved a proposal on amendments to electoral laws, ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for later this year. The amendments will be prepared by the government and submitted to parliament by mid-February. The EU has been urging Macedonia to improve electoral legislation.
